This is a very good comment. M-16 was designned to replace M-14 as it is too heavy & fires single shots at that time. However, Dur to M-14 accuracy & punch at long range, it is still favoured by the army until now.
The same goes for many other guns like the famous AK-47, it is also based on WWII design.
